Certain security features included in Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) may prevent you from successfully starting and using the Web Client. For example, the Web Client cannot operate correctly if:
The eMed.net Web site is unable to download an ActiveX control to your computer. To fix the problem, you will need to install the ActiveX control.
The eMed.net Web site is unable to display pop-up windows on your screen. To fix the problem, you can allow pop-up windows from the eMed.net Web site.
The Web Client is unable to accept connections from the eMed.net Web site. To fix the problem, you can unblock connections to the eMed.net Web site.
The Web Client is unable to display the Study View across both monitors in a dual-monitor system. To fix the problem, you can enable script-initiated windows in Internet Explorer.
Note: You might also experience
problems if your system does not meet the requirements
for installing and running the Client.
When The eMed.net Web site attempts to download a required ActiveX plug-in component to your computer, Internet Explorer may display an alert in the Information Bar (located just below the address bar) indicating that the site might require a particular ActiveX control. To make sure that you notice the alert, Internet Explorer also displays the following dialog box:
To install the ActiveX control:
Click the Information Bar.
On the menu that appears, click Install ActiveX Control.
Carefully review the information in the security warning that appears.
Once you have verified that the ActiveX control is from the eMed.net Web site, click Install.
Note: If your system does not allow users to install software, you will need to consult your system administrator for assistance.
When the eMed.net Web site attempts to display a pop-up window on your screen, Internet Explorer may display an alert in the Information Bar (located just below the address bar) similar to the following:

To make sure that you notice the alert, Internet Explorer also displays the following dialog box:
Before you can log in and use the Web Client, you will need to:
Temporarily disable Pop-up Blocker
- or -
Configure Pop-up Blocker to allow pop-up windows from the eMed.net Web site
To temporarily disable Pop-up Blocker:
Click the Information Bar.
Click Temporarily Allow Pop-ups.
To re-enable Pop-up blocker once you have finished working in the Web Client, point to Pop-up Blocker on the Tools menu and then click Turn on Pop-up Blocker.
To configure Pop-up Blocker to allow pop-up windows from the eMed.net Web site:
Open Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
In the dialog box, type the address of the eMed.net Web site in the text box and then click Add.
The address is added to the list of allowed sites.
Note: You may also need to disable or turn off pop-up blockers in other applications, such as Google Toolbar, to allow pop-up windows from the eMed.net Web site.
When the eMed.net Web site attempts to connect to your computer, Windows Firewall may block the Web Client from accepting the connection. A Windows Security Alert appears on your screen and gives you the option of unblocking the connection.
To unblock the connection to the eMed.net Web site:
Click Unblock in the Windows Security Alert dialog box.
If you are unable to unblock the connection, contact your system administrator for assistance.
Even when “Enable dual monitor” is selected on the System menu, the Web Client may be unable to display the Study View across both screens in a dual-monitor system. To fix the problem, you’ll need to enable script-initiated windows in Internet Explorer.
To enable script-initiated windows:
Open Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
Select the Security tab.
Click Custom Level.
In the list of security settings, scroll down to the Miscellaneous section.
Under “Allow script-initiated windows without size or position constraints,” select Enable.
Click OK to accept the change and then click OK to close the dialog box.
The requirements for installing and running the Web Client are described in the following table.
